Why Switch to Organic Cotton?

I'm going to start off this blog with a quick summary of the information for those that don't want all of the details as to why one ought to switch to Organic cotton over conventional, non-organic cotton.

There are two main reasons that Organic cotton is better than non-organic.

First, non-organic cotton can have up to 8,000 chemicals used on it. There are chemicals, pesticides and insecticides sprayed on it when it is grown, it goes through a chemical bath after it is harvested, and even more chemicals are sprayed on it when it is made into a product like a shirt, sweatshirt, sheet, towel, etc. You can wash out some of the chemicals, but from what I understand, you will never have a chemical-free product. This means that if you are wearing a non-organic cotton shirt, then you are soaking up chemicals all day long because our skin is porous and soaks up what we put on it. One more thing concerning our health: the human body vibrates at a certain frequency. God made us, and one of the smallest building blocks of a human is an atom. Atoms vibrate. That means humans vibrate. A healthy person's body vibrates at around 100 angstroms (m). Guess what Organic cotton is made of? Atoms! Guess what it vibrates at? 100 angstroms! Non-organic cotton vibrates at 70 m. Polyester, silk and rayon all vibrate at 15 m. Guess what a sick person's body vibrates at? Yep,

15 m!

Second, non-organic cotton is terrible for the earth. God has called humanity to steward the earth, not trash it and destroy it. The pesticides, chemicals and insecticides that are sprayed onto our soil destroy the good bacteria, vitamins and minerals in the soil. These chemicals also run off into our waterways and can get into the water table. These same chemicals can make animals sick, or kill them. When the cotton is ginned, the byproducts fly into the air carrying all their toxic chemical with them, so that we can breathe them in. Now, I know that some people think that caring for the environment is some sort of pagan earth worship. Trust me, I don't worship the earth. I just want to steward it because it is a gift from God. Also, don't people realize that our water is being laden with chemicals. Oh, and, by the way, what do we get from soil? Food! I don't know about y'all, but I have to eat to be able to survive. That's just how God made my body.

One more thing I want to mention before I finish this summary: think about the farmers that have to work around these poisons, day in and day out. They are surrounded by these toxic man-made substances constantly. We ought to think about them and care about them enough to consider switching.

Non-organic cotton has many downsides, and Organic cotton has a lot of upsides. To me it seems like an easy choice to make the switch, but I understand that for some the switch just isn't that easy. No worries! I don't want to shove anything down your throat or tell you what to do, I merely want to speak what I believe to be the truth and then I'll let you do what you want with it. Organic cotton is more expensive, but I believe that it is totally worth it! I hope that you do too! God bless!

Feel free to continue reading if you want additional information.

How Organic Cotton is Better for Human Health

There are a lot of reasons why Organic Cotton is better for us, and a lot of the reasons are connected to why it is better for the earth. Here's some reasons to ditch conventional cotton.

  • When we wear the chemicals sprayed on conventional cotton on our body, our skin soaks up those chemicals through our pores

  • We breathe in the chemicals used (overspray on cotton can travel up to 2 miles)

  • This overspray can end up on our food, so we are eating the chemicals

  • These same toxic substances are destroying our soil and depleting it of the nutrients

  • Our water ways are being poisoned, the water table is being poisoned

  • The farmers who work around these pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides are getting sick and some are dying

  • "According to the World Health Organization, 20,000 people die every year from accidental pesticide positioning in conventional cotton agriculture, and 1,000,000 people a year suffer from long-term pesticide positioning (Pesticide Action Network)."

  • "Sadly, the suicide rate for conventional cotton farmers is high (especially in India).  Some say it is no higher than it always has been.  Some say it is higher now that cotton farming is GMO.  Either way, it is a sad situation."

  • One of the most dangerous chemicals ever made, glyphosate is sprayed all over conventional cotton

So, this means that we are wearing, breathing, eating and potentially drinking all of these poisonous substances! That is quite concerning! Here are some reasons that Organic Cotton is a better choice.

  • Organic cotton is better for our health because it is not sprayed with the chemicals

  • Organic cotton products are better because they don't go through the same chemical bath that conventional cotton goes through

  • Organic cotton is better for the health, well-being, and mental state of our farmers. They will no longer have to work around these incredibly harsh substances

  • It is better for the environment

  • It requires less water

  • Organic Cotton has a vibrational frequency equal to that of a healthy human body 100 m

  • "The land, and soil, benefits from crop rotation"

How Organic Cotton is Better for the Earth

If we stop spraying these herbicides, insecticides and pesticides on the earth then maybe it will be able to heal. Our soil is being destroyed. It is depleted of the good bacteria, the vitamins and the minerals that we need to be able to grow healthy food. Our food is way less nutrient dense than it used to be, and our food is also far worse when compared to the food grown in Europe!

Our water is also being laden with these chemicals. Animals are dying, plants struggle to survive, and I'm sure that a lot of these chemicals are cleaned out before they get to us through the tap, however, I don't think that our tap system is able to clean all of it, so it is making humans sick as well.

So, Why Should You Switch?

It will be better for you, for farmers, for other people, for the earth, and for animals. The chemical garbage that is sprayed all over conventional cotton is only good for the people who are making ridiculous amounts of money from cotton farming operations where they are destroying the health of their employees.

Now, before I go on and speak a little bit more about why I believe you should switch, let me say this. I know that there will be plenty of naysayers. "Oh, there's no such thing as organic." "Organic is just a label." "Organic is a lie." "Organic is just a scam." Well, I guess that these people have absolutely 0 faith and trust in anyone's integrity. They really don't believe that there are farms out there that refuse to use these chemicals because they care about their families and the earth? I know that a lot of people are very bad, but I like to believe that there is still some good in this world, and that there are still good, honest people at work in it. I feel that these naysayers may have read a one-off article about how an "organic" company lied and then they apply it to everything organic. And, who knows, maybe one day when all of God's people are in heaven God will tell us that everything organic was a scam. That would be a HUGE and very impressive lie if that is the case that satan was able to peddle, but I don't buy it.

I believe that there are smaller farms that care about doing what's right and they care about people. I want to do my best to support them and their operations, instead of the big, conventional operations that are destroying little peons and peasants that they view as less than themselves.

Other reasons to switch: it will be better for your skin. You won't be soaking up all of those chemicals. We won't have to breathe in these chemicals as much. We will be able to clean up our water. We will help our soil. We will be helping our fellow man.

It's more expensive.

You're right! But the question is, is it worth it? I believe that after all the study that I have done, the only logical answer would be, "YES!" I want to be a good steward of the body that God gave me. I want to be a good steward of the earth, which God gave to humanity. I want to be a good neighbor by caring about other people's health and well-being.

I understand that some will be unwilling to make the switch. Change is hard! Many people are very comfortable and they don't want to change things, especially if it means spending a little extra hard earned money. However, there are some who are willing to make that sacrifice! And, honestly, I believe that if you buy the more expensive Organic Cotton products and you take care of them that the purchase will be totally worth it! It'll also give you more of a reason to be less of a consumer and less materialistic, plus, you'll probably care for the clothing that God gives you because it cost you a little more.

God recently opened my eyes to a lot of things, and one of them is this subject about Organic versus conventional cotton, and I wanted to be a part of the movement to change things. I want people to be healthier. I want people to be treated with dignity (I don't think that making farmers work around these chemicals reflects dignity). There are a few ways that I seek to be a part of this new movement to switch to "clean clothing"

  1. By writing about what God has shown me

  2. Telling people that I know what He has shown me

  3. Selling products that are made with Organic Cotton

You may not want to buy Organic Cotton from me, and that's perfectly fine! But, I'd love for you to buy it from someone for your sake! There are some sites that sell "clean clothing" like:

https://wearpact.com/men/apparel

https://www.patagonia.com/search/?q=organic

https://harvestandmill.com/search?q=organic&submit=Search&options%5Bprefix%5D=last

https://rawganique.com/collections/mens-organic-t-shirts (probably my favorite)

There are others, of course, but those are a few that I have found. In my search, though, I haven't found anyone that has the unique combo that we have here at Kingdom Come: Organic Cotton clothing that has God's Word written on it. There may be some other clean clothing businesses that would consider themselves Christians, but, once again, I haven't found any that sell clothing with Christian designs, or Bible verses on them.

I used a couple of quotes in this blog post and they came from an article that I was reading up on. Feel free to read it, it's got a lot of great information in it that I didn't get to cover!
